I used a mixture of dried ancho, guallijo, pasilla and New Mexico chiles, and after soaking, adding broth, onions and garlic, sugar and salt, used an immersion blender right in the pot. What an amazingly easy recipe and the aroma and flavor can’t be beat. I’m attaching a photo and will make this annually for our New Year Tamale Party!

I used 1 cup of Cremora and substituted the 2nd cup with Regular Plain Full Cream Yoghurt which turned out tasting fantastic as it broke the extreme sweetness of the condensed milk only somewhat and complimented the rich creamy taste of the Cremora. I also used Lemon Creams instead of Tennis Biscuits as suggested by another reader, although it turned out tasty and complimented the freshly squeezed lemon juice, personally however I would rather stick with either a plain tennis biscuit crust or at most add some lemon creams to the tennis biscuits just to add that hint of lemon flavour to the crust as well, but I personally found a Lemon Cream Only crust somewhat of an overkill and a bit too sweet to my own liking although my daughter seemed not to have minded it. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe here. It really is a classic especially with a tight budget and short notice this year on Old Christmas Eve. Happy Holidays??????????
